Learn to play

After Maguy Gérentet (See in the pro pages HERE), over the years, other professional musicians have fallen under the spell of the zither.

Among the most active today, it is fair to name Catherine Weidemann who has done and continues to do immense work to develop educational materials accessible to all.(See in the pro pages HERE ).

So here is a first idea for those who like to go on an adventure with a minimum of guarantee.

But both Maguy (
) than Catherine (
), they organize courses for all levels, sometimes with themes.
Dates and locations are updated regularly.

There are also non-professional local "teachers". You can inquire

Some answers to legitimate questions

  • I don't know music, can I learn to play the zither?
Yes, it is possible to quickly achieve a concrete result, obviously not without work. But we can say without hesitation that the zither is aimed at Tintin readers, therefore people aged 7 to 77. After or before, please consult the professionals!

  • I'm almost blind. Is it a dream to want to play the zither?
It is necessary to dream. Maguy seems designated to help make this dream come true, being visually impaired herself.

  • I'm not yet 77 years old, but I have a lot of osteoarthritis, is this possible?
Yes with Catherine who is an occupational therapist and very attentive to this type of pathology. His game (called “en draw”) is also more adapted.

  • I can't afford to buy an instrument, are there any to rent?
The association is working on this question. Make yourself known on the page Stay in touch.

  • It's really too much
  • difficult
  • for me to learn, couldn't there be something simpler?
There is the solution of tuning in pentatonic (i.e. with only five notes) which allows you to always be in tune. But the game is more restricted.
It is in any case a possibility to "rest" when learning is too arduous.

There is the system of
diagrams
which were and are used for folk zither. The game is necessarily a little restricted, but this system allows you to play pieces with virtually no musical knowledge.
There is an association
Mulhouse
who uses diagrams brilliantly in orchestra. It is possible to obtain it from
John Hurter
.

  • So what are these diagrams?
Here's a photo already!... and Jean Hurter explains very well who this system is aimed at and how it has evolved...
