Its history, its goals

Updated 03/20/2024

The history of the association

The Friends of the Zither association currently has around 200 members spread across a dozen countries.
It was founded in 1988 by Maguy Gérentet and Francis Gombert to support and coordinate the development of the zither in France.
In 2015, the structure of the association was modified to allow more active participation of members.

The goals of the association

The statutes of the Association assign the following goals (whatever the style of music, playing technique and violin making):
  • Promote the chord zither by promoting exchanges between the different actors of this instrument
  • Support training individual and group
  • Support ensemble music with zithers and other instruments
  • Support the integration of the chord zither into the liturgy or as an instrument of meditation
  • Supporting reflection around the chord zither
  • Inform people interested in the chord zither
  • Organize or support all projects having a link with the Jouan people t of the chord zither
  • Implement services intended for the benefit of chord zither users
In addition to the publication of the Cithare et Harmonie (C&H) liaison bulletin,
it also occasionally organizes conferences or meetings
for the promotion of the instrument.
